Intention: It is my sincere intention to dig deep and share openly about my first foray into the wisdom of the Red Tent and Sacred Feminism for the purpose of experiencing a deep connection to the material I am learning.

(I will be indicating an intention for each blog entry, as I feel it is important to be intentional in all I do.)

So, yesterday was my first foray into the world of the Red Tent and the Sacred Feminine.  I knew as soon as I began reading that these lessons were completely meant to come my way.  I can’t really explain the feeling that I had upon reading the material, other than “an intuitive knowing” that this is definitely a path that I was destined to go down.

You see, in Biblical times, in cultures all across the world, there was one time a month, when all the women would go off on their own into seclusion in order to experience menstruation together (they were all “on-cycle” together as they were usually aligned with the moon before modern stress and other factors interrupted this alignment).  This was long before modern “conveniences” that made it possible to hide and ignore what was happening to their bodies.  The men were a bit afraid of and put off by this whole biological process, so they left the women to do what they did together… and alone.  Eventually, as the women continued to meet regularly without the men or young kids around, they began to use this time to connect about women’s “stuff”.  They would bond, they would share, and they would tell all their stories and secrets to each other in the confidence of sisterhood.  Here, they could be honest about how challenging life could be.  They would teach the younger girls just coming into age how to be confident and powerful women.  Women of each generation would pass down the ancient wisdom of healing, intuition, and responsible sexuality to the younger ones.  This guaranteed that all of the maidens had an extended family of women to which they could turn to for guidance, especially if they felt that they couldn’t turn to their mothers.

The modern Red Tent is all about bringing back the sisterhood – bringing women together to share openly, honestly, and vulnerably with each other for the purpose of dispelling all myths about what it means to be a woman, to be a partner, and to be a mother.  In the Red Tent, women learn how to lean on each other without that underlying feeling of intimidation, lack of self-worth, and without that masks we wear out of fear of imperfections.  The Red Tent is a place where women can go to rest, to revive, and to rejuvenate ourselves… in the company of sisters who know what it is like to feel depleted, run-down, and fed up with the feeling of having to do it all, all the time.  The Red Tent is a place where women can come to learn how to access our authentic selves, beneath all of the roles we play… where we can feel our emotional selves, underneath the layers of neglect… where we can trust our intuitive selves, after lifetimes of ignoring that inner voice.

These are all tasks that I’ve been moving through myself, as I figure out who I really am once I drop the need to please others in my life, as I learn to empower myself through trust that I am perfectly and uniquely me and THAT IS GOOD ENOUGH, and as I learn to love myself and take care of myself in a way that is intuitive to me without the guilt that I am being selfish.  As I come into understanding of the importance of these tasks in my life, I yearn to teach it to the women in my life around me.  The more I have deep and meaningful conversations with the important women in my life, the more I realize how necessary these teachings are to women in this society.

I am so truly blessed that the women in my life supported me in getting here to this training, and I am so excited to turn over all that I learn to all of you, so that we may each play our part in fostering the next generation of authentically powerful women.

Please feel free to ask me questions as I move along.  I’m learning this as a service to all of you.

Much love,

-Amy
